The United States Department of War, through its Economic Defense Unit and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Industrial Base Policy, has announced a $750 million investment with US SIIE, LLC. This funding is part of a larger $1.55 billion initiative aimed at securing critical rare-earth elements from Serra Verde.

The capital injection is being executed through the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment program. Rare-earth elements are vital components for a wide range of modern technologies, including electronics, renewable energy systems, and defense equipment. Securing these supply chains has become a major strategic priority for Western nations, including the United States and its European allies, as they seek to reduce dependence on dominant global suppliers.

This major investment reflects ongoing international efforts to build resilient supply chains for critical minerals. As Malta and the wider European Union continue to navigate global supply chain challenges and transition toward green technologies, international developments in resource security remain highly relevant to global markets.
