Education and Sport Minister Byron Camilleri inaugurated the primary school at the Mediterranean College of Sport (MCS). The college, which opened in 2024 offering secondary and Sixth Form education, now has more than 360 students, including 93 in primary education.
According to the Ministry for Education and Sport, total enrolment is expected to reach around 450 by the next scholastic year. The primary school combines academic teaching with daily 45-minute sports sessions in disciplines including gymnastics, swimming and athletics.
MCS Chief Executive Charlo Bonnici said the primary school began operating last year with two classes and added another two this year. He said it was expected to be complete next scholastic year. Unlike secondary students, who specialise in a particular discipline, primary pupils explore different sports before choosing the one that interests them most, he explained.
“Education and sport are not two separate worlds, but two elements that together help in the full development of our children,” Minister Camilleri said. During the visit, he toured the Performance Science Centre, sports facilities and primary classrooms, meeting students and educators. A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the inauguration.
