The United States Department of War’s Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Industrial Base Policy has announced a $35.6 million equity investment in Trilogy Metals Inc. The funding, secured through the Industrial Base Analysis and Sustainment (IBAS) program, is aimed at securing critical domestic supplies of copper, cobalt, and germanium.
The strategic investment will focus on the Upper Kobuk Mineral Project located in northwest Alaska. This region is known to contain significant deposits of these critical minerals, which are essential components for both defense technologies and modern commercial applications.
By securing these mineral resources, the U.S. government aims to strengthen its domestic industrial base and reduce supply chain vulnerabilities. Cobalt and germanium are widely used in advanced electronics, military hardware, and green energy technologies, making their secure supply a high priority for international defense and technology sectors.
