The Partit Nazzjonalista has called on the Government to explain how funds for security and local councils were spent and how allocations will be used. “This Budget failed to provide tangible solutions to the challenges we are facing in security and the problems that Local Councils have,” the party said.

At a press conference, Shadow Minister for Home Affairs and Security Conrad Borg Manchè and Shadow Minister for Local Government and Public Works Bernice Bonello said growth in security personnel had not kept pace with population growth. They claimed police stations lacked necessary investment, with many outdated or remaining closed, and called for improvements at the prison and investment in workers’ safety.

The speakers said local councils lacked financial resources and accused the Government of continuing to refuse a clear explanation of how €10 million allocated under the Framework Agreement had been spent. They also said a pre-election promise to pass part of the eco-contribution to councils remained unfulfilled.

The speakers said Budget allocations must actually be spent where needed, so that people benefit first and foremost from the Government’s use of workers’ taxes.
