Minister Julia Farrugia and Labour MP Cressida Galea outlined Budget measures at a Labour Party press conference, while criticising what they described as the Opposition’s failure to decide on key national priorities. “A Labour Government does not only promise, but delivers,” the party said in its statement.

Farrugia said the Prime Minister had reaffirmed that energy bills would remain stable and fuel prices among Europe’s lowest. She accused the Nationalist Party of failing to give a clear position on subsidies. She also highlighted an increase in the Carer’s Grant to €7,500 annually for parents unable to work because they care for children with severe disabilities.

According to Farrugia, parents in this situation working up to 20 hours part-time weekly would receive support equivalent to half the National Minimum Wage from January next year. She said the Government would also cover all costs of necessary therapies for children with disabilities and neurodivergent conditions.

Galea highlighted free Gozo Channel crossings from 1 January for Maltese and Gozitan foot passengers, also covering EU citizens and long-term residents. She said eco-contribution revenue would fund services and additional resources for Local Councils in tourist areas.
