Prime Minister Robert Abela met representatives of the Chamber of Commerce at the Auberge de Castille as part of consultations ahead of Budget 2027. The meeting discussed proposals the Chamber submitted to the Government in its document ‘Reset and Lead’.

According to the Office of the Prime Minister, the document sets out immediate measures for 2027 and others intended for the legislature. It emphasises an economic model prioritising productivity, added value, innovation, efficiency and quality of life.

Abela said Malta’s economy had remained resilient despite international turbulence. The statement cited European Commission forecasts showing real growth of 4% in 2025, with 3.7% forecast this year and 3.6% in 2027. Unemployment was expected to remain around 3%. Abela described economic success as “not the point of arrival” but “the starting point”, calling for more sustainable growth, productivity, quality and added value.

Abela also called for continued investment in digital transformation. He said the national AI strategy adopted in 2019 was being updated to reflect new technological realities and strengthen private-sector competitiveness. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to greater emphasis on upskilling and reskilling, and said Malta continued to provide stable energy prices despite volatile international markets.
