An area of around 750 square metres in Lija, which was scheduled for development, has been transformed into an open space called Ġnien il-Larinġ. The project was completed through the work of Project Green.

The open space was inaugurated by the Minister for the Environment Miriam Dalli, the Project Green team, the mayor of Lija Anthony Dalli, and local council members. Around 15 tonnes of waste were removed from the site to design the project, which now features accessible pathways, a lodge with sanitary facilities, and resting and reading areas.

The garden's name was inspired by Lija's reputation for citrus trees. It includes existing citrus trees alongside 25 newly planted ones, as well as around 900 plants and shrubs, including aromatic plants like lavender, rosemary, sage, and thyme. Historic wells were also identified and restored to be used for watering the garden.

Minister Miriam Dalli explained that the space was given back to the public instead of being developed. "Today we are giving back an open space to the public, instead of it being developed," she said, adding that the goal is for more people to enjoy open spaces and socialise in a safe environment.
